RI Director Professor Theodore C. Bestor receives “Senior Scholar” award from the Society of Urban, National, and Transnational Anthropology
Theodore Bestor has been awarded the inaugural “Senior Scholar” award from the Society of Urban, National, and Transnational Anthropology (SUNTA) section of the American Anthropological Association. He served as President of SUNTA under its then name, the Society for Urban Anthropology. The society notes his dedicated work on Tokyo since the 1980s, his more recent scholarship on the Tsukiji wholesale fish market and the contributions that his research has made to understandings of urban culture, economic organization, and global commodity flows. He will be honored by SUNTA at the American Anthropological Association Meetings, which will be held in Washington D.C. this December.
